Description:
The Hazelton opened in August 2007, declaring itself Toronto's first five-star hotel. So what if no organization actually awarded its stars? (The Hazelton's claim is that it was built to five-star specifications.) It is undeniably beautiful, with an understated masculine glamour obvious in both public spaces and guestrooms (designed by Yabu Pushelberg). Rooms are spacious, and the bathrooms are particularly delightful, with heated marble floors and a small TV screen in the wall above the sink. The hotel also boasts an excellent Mark McEwan restaurant and a screening room that seats 25. The downside? Yorkville Avenue is currently under so much construction that you may want a hardhat just to walk down the street. And the Hazelton is just a little too starstruck, dubbing one dining room the "Neil Young Room," though the Canadian musician has no connection with the hotel.
