Description:

  • Kensington Market has long been known as a place to buy food, thanks to its fresh produce stalls and small groceries, but in the past year it's become a dining destination, too. Rice Bar is easy to miss from the street, and inside the decor is strictly utilitarian (except for the floral pillowcases against the wall). The menu is designed around the notion of building your own meal in a bowl. You start with a selection of rice (basmati, jasmine, or wild) and add your choice of ingredients (all organic and additive-free). Service is on the slow side, but pleasant. The rice bowls come in several sizes, including the gargantuan Hungry Hungry Human. There are several house-designed bowls, too, including the much-loved Dragon Boat (rice noodles in a cilantro broth with tofu and kimchee).
