Black Creek Pioneer Village - Toronto
  • Type: Attractions
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

If you loved Anne of Green Gables or Laura Ingalls as a child, this is a chance to step into their world. It's a great place to spend the afternoon.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Allow at least half a day to experience the village, wear good walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, as you will be outdoors for most of the day.

    Description:

    • Black Creek is a recreation of a Canadian Pioneer Village, but many of the buildings are actually authentic. As the land was needed for other purposes, the buildings were moved to this site from various places in Ontario. It is now a living museum showing what life was like in Ontario between the 1790s and the 1860s, with costumed interpreters to explain how the buildings were used and give demonstrations of the various activities, from cooking and weaving to blacksmithing and milling. There is a tea room and a general store selling goodies, as well as a visitors' centre. It's great for adults and children alike, and there are a wide variety of tours and events throughout the summer season, so check the website for activities before you visit.
