  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Visit Casa Loma during the summer months, as this is the best time to visit the gardens. The audio guides are cheesy but informative and worth purchasing.

  • Description:

    • Casa Loma is Toronto's one delightful folly. Given that the city's history really only goes back about 200 years, we were never going to have an authentic medieval castle. But in 1911, a wealthy man by the name of Sir Henry Mill Pallett decided he wanted one. He commissioned its constuction on a ridge overlooking the city, and it took 300 workers three years to build. Unfortunately, Sir Henry's fortunes took a turn for the worse during the Depression and it was seized by the city. It is now open to the public and visitors are invited to look around the many elaborately furnished rooms and extensive grounds. Not only is it a popular spot for tourists, but it has also been used extensively in film and television, with numerous movies and series having scenes shot there.
