Description:
- The McMichael Art Gallery is somewhat off the beaten path, located on 100 acres of conservation land in Kleinburg, Ontario, which is about forty-five minutes from downtown Toronto. The McMichael is the only gallery in Canada to house purely Canadian works of art. Its permanent collection contains more than 6000 pieces by artists such as Tom Thomson, Emily Carr, and the Group of Seven, as well as First Nations and Inuit artists. It also hosts temporary touring exhibitions, as well as an assortment of programs, workshops and events, so check the website to see what's on while you're visiting. Around the gallery, there is a network of hiking trails through the woodlands, where visitors can view sculptures set in among the wildlife. There is also a small cemetery on the grounds where six members of the Group of Seven are buried.
