Business Travel to Toronto: Around the corner from Metro Convention Centre

Business Travel to Toronto: Around the corner from Metro Convention Centre

Description:

If this afternoon's session of "Zen desk organization with an eye on the bottom line" isn't revving your engine, take the afternoon off and explore the area around Metro Convention Centre. You won't go too far, but we'll get you far enough away to forget about synergy and get to see a bit of the city. Nothing is more than 6 blocks from the Convention Centre, so it's easy for the savvy business traveler to take a mini-vacation.

One easy way to immerse yourself in Torontonians is to check out a sporting event, whether it be hockey with the Maple Leafs or baseball with the Blue Jays. If nothing's in season, you can satiate the fan in you with a trip to the Hockey Hall of fame - follow that with a trip to Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant, and you'll have the full off-season treat.

Not a sports fan? The Toronto Dominion Gallery of Inuit Art offers a uniquely Canadian fine art experience. Follow your visit with dinner at swanky Japanese restaurant Ki, or trendy Indian Joint Ultra Supper Club. For those who'd like to see the lay of the land, head up the CN tower and dine at the top of Toronto (and North America, really) at 360 Restaurant.

Once you're ready to loosen your tie a bit, immerse yourself in local brew at C'est What. For those hoping to return to their college days, check out the mayhem at Crocodile Rock - you won't be disappointed.

The award-winning 360 Restaurant sits 351 metres (that's 1,151 feet) above street level and touts itself as the "world's highest wine cellar". Ever eaten in a hockey museum? Well, it's not the Hockey Hall of Fame, but while you eat or while you are waiting for your hearty food at this restaurant, owned by "The Great One" himself, you will be able to check out all kinda of interesting hockey memorabilia. If there is one thing to discover about Wayne at this establishment, it's his love for good food, considering the menu is based around his favourites - like roast Atlantic salmon and grilled beef tenderloin. Before or after your meal you can hang out and play table hockey, pool tables or video hockey games. Definitely a must for hockey fans! This restaurant is within walking distance of the CN Tower.

    Our Local Expert Says:

A trip to the top is a great thing to combine with an afternoon Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre.

    Description:

Until 2007, the CN Tower was the tallest free-standing structure in the world. Located right next to the Rogers Centre, this downtown landmark is one of Toronto's premiere tourist attractions. Take an elevator trip all the way up to the sky pod (in the - the 2nd highest observation deck in the world! On a clear day, you can see the mist across Lake Ontario from the famed Niagara Falls. Watching others navigate their way across the glass floor in this observation space is as much fun as standing on it yourself, and on nice days, when the roof is open on the Rogers Centre - you can catch a glimpse of a teeny, tiny Major League ball game happening hundreds of meters below.

All of that observing may leave you with a hunger gap. If you want to go all out, a dinner at the award-winning 360 restaurant is a must for the full CN Tower experience, paired with a bottle of wine from the world's highest wine cellar. But if you are in the area around brunch time, you can't beat the amazing crepes from Cora's. For a fun, delicious lunch or dinner, head to Planet Hollywood where you can dine and check out film and TV celeb memorabilia at the same time.

    Description:

The Air Canada Centre is Toronto's biggest sports and entertainment venue. It is the home of three sports teams: the Raptors (basketball), the Maple Leafs (hockey, Canada's official winter sport), and Toronto Rock (lacrosse, which is Canada's official summer sport, believe it or not). It also hosts concerts and live events, so when stars of the calibre of Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart and Usher come to town, this is where they perform. The whole complex is about 665,000 square feet in size, and it can seat nearly 20,000 people, depending on the event and the layout. It is located right downtown, near the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre, and only a short walk from Union Station (which services both inter-city trains and local transit).

Check online or call ahead to make sure that Stanley Cup will be at the Hall of Fame for your visit.

    Description:

The Hockey Hall of Fame is located across from Union station and has exhibits about notable individuals and teams, as well as numerous opportunities to get active and test your hockey skills. The Stanley Cup is also housed here when it is not on the road. Highlights at the Hall of Fame are the "Be a Player" exhibit and the "Broadcast Zone." The tribute to Wayne Gretzky is also quite impressive.

If you are still in a hockey state of mind after your visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame, head to Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant which is owned by "The Great One" himself for some delicious dishes - including the biggest plate of nachos you may have ever seen.
