As well as being the gateway to the Pyrenees, Toulouse is historic yet animated and family friendly yet bustling with culture and nightlife, making it understandable why year in and year out the city is bombarded with a tourist influx, especially in the summer months. Thankfully Toulouse has become well-prepared for its variety of visitors, providing a good choice in hotels, guest rooms and holiday apartments.
Grand Hotel de l'Opera occupies a proud space in the center of Place Capitole and is by far the most elegant hotel in the city. Over the years, the hotel has earned itself several prestigious awards for its impressive transformation of a medieval convent into an oasis of style and sophistication. The pubic salons and lounge rooms abound with antiques and fine art, while the guestrooms are spacious and stylish, with high ceilings, four-poster beds and all the necessary amenities. The restaurant hotel is of similar quality, offering a gourmet menu of regional cuisine.
For one of the most tranquil settings, try the charming Hotel Garonne. The bedrooms are midsize and snug, all newly renovated and very tastefully decorated in tones of deep red and beige. Directly opposite the hotel is the hotel's restaurant, Le 19, one of the most reputable restaurants in town.
For a more typical room with modern amenities, business visitors may like to try Sofitel, the hotel that goes to great lengths to make a pleasant stay for you. Bilingual staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about tourist enquiries, and the hotel offers gigantic suites, all with adjoining bathrooms. For more budget beds, try some of the "chambres d'hotes," which are guesthouses that still provide the convenience of a prime location in the town center. Anjali B&B is situated in the center of town and is designed in an authentic Toulousiane style, with a façade that was built in 1880 but an interior that has been recently completely renovated. Garden Hotel is another small family-run hotel that has a calm and friendly environment, great for a families looking for a comfortable yet relaxed stay.
