Boreal Mountain Playground

  • Type: Winter Sports
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

This hill is best in the summer, when mountain biking is the sport of choice.

  • Description:

    • With the base at 7,200 feet and a summit elevation of 7,700 feet, Boreal has a 500 foot vertical drop. Its 41 runs and 380 acres are serviced by two quad chairs, three triple chairs and four double chairs.

200 of Boreal's 380 skiable acres are covered by snowmaking. With an average annual snowfall of around 400 inches, by November Boreal normally has plenty of natural snow to complement its snowmaking. Boreal's new halfpipe cutter has the ability to produce 17 foot high walls and a clean, large, precise halfpipe.

With Boreal's expanded night lighting, more terrain will be open at night. At night, Boreal offers beginner runs, cruising runs, a halfpipe, a terrain park, and a race course. Boreal is unique in that it is open nightly, not just weekends or holidays. For overnight stays, the Boreal Motel is just 1/4 mile from the ski resort and offers spacious rooms that can accommodate up to four people.

Boreal offers 380 acres of terrain for skiing and snowboarding. In addition, Boreal also offers Playland sledding and mini snowmobile rental.

Boreal is located along Interstate 80 at Donner Summit, eight miles west of Truckee, 45 miles west of Reno, 80 miles east of Sacramento, and 175 miles east of San Francisco.
