  • NileGuide Expert Says:

During the fall, Science Saturdays offer visitors hands-on experiences in science.

  • Description:

    • In the rolling grasslands of the Santa Catalina Mountain north of Tucson is the Biosphere 2. Essentially a huge greenhouse designed and built in the 1980s to be self-sustaining, the Biosphere is the largest controlled environment ever created. In 1991, eight researchers entered the Biosphere in a two-year experiment to see if the Biosphere's environment could support all of their needs for two years. The experiment had mixed results. Today, the Biosphere 2 is managed by the University of Arizona, which uses it to study climate change. There are daily tours.
