You might be thinking of Huapalcalco, where there's a pyramid and caves with paintings. In the city itself, important sites are the Cathedral and the Floresta Garden, the Railroad Museum, and the Casa de los Emperadores, which both Emperors stayed - Agustín de Iturbide and Maximiliano I. El Chico National Park is also in the state of Hidalgo, near Pachuca - http://www.parqueelchico.gob.mx/
