- Catch a whole other realm of Mediterannean life that you know and have seen with your very own eyes in Europe and head down to Tunisia, where Islamic African culture can be humbling and quite the experience for literally be just across the sea from a flood of Italians, French and Spaniards. The same weather, the same atmosphere and the same sun, but in a completely different culture, landscape and law of land is like something out of a movie, which is probably why the sand dune scenes from the Star Wars movies were filmed in Tunisia's vast rolling expanses. Tunis though is your base to exploring the country, and that means finding a good, comforting place to sleep off your adventures, and it can offer you quite the different experience than the Western world. Five-stars aren't exactly five-stars, and cute hotels are hardly to be found, but if you want to experience something completely different, Tunis is a good place to start.
