Nature Attractions in Turin

Turin is famous for its parks and riverside location. So why not get out and enjoy the fresh air and open spaces this baroque city has to offer. After all there are only so many monuments and museums, castles and cafes one can take!

Take time to delve into the outdoor activities along the River Po or in Parco del Valentino on the left bank of the river. Located between the Umberto I Bridge and the Isabella Bridge this is Turin's largest park.

Once a royal hunting reserve for the Savoy family, today it covers an area of some 550,000 square metres with pathways, flower beds and small woods. In summer months Parco del Valentino hosts an open-air cinema and is a place where the locals come to relax and enjoy the fresh air. No wonder it is known locally as Turin's green lung.

Just outside the city is Parco della Collina di Superga, one of the city's most beautiful green spaces. Here you'll find both Alpine and Mediterranean vegetation, such as oak, orchids and foxgloves. And atop this hill there are fine views over the city and the Basilica of Superga where many members of the Italian Royal family are buried.

You don't need to be a fitness freak to enjoy the natural wonders of Turin's beautiful parks and landscape either; there are activities for all, some active, some relaxed so take your pick and enjoy the green side of this city.
