Avon
Avon is a mere eight miles from Vail and the gateway to Beaver Creek, making it the perfect center for year-round fun in the mountains. Friendly, down-to-earth and affordable, Avon has a distinct atmosphere and plenty of quality restaurants, lodging and outdoor recreation opportunities. And with easy access to I-70, getting around to neighboring attractions is no problem.
In the winter, Avon serves as the main hub for Beaver Creek. The free Gondola Express bus gets you to the mountain from town in about 10 minutes. Nottingham Lake freezes over each winter and encourages ice skating and hockey. In the summer, a variety of events from duathlons, free family movies in the park and the largest fireworks display in the Colorado Rockies keep Avon abuzz with excitement. A new Whitewater Park lets paddlers of all levels test their skills on the Eagle River, while those looking for a more relaxed boating experience can rent paddle boats at Harry A. Nottingham Park.
While it's not the biggest or busiest mountain town, Avon adds a slice of small-town charm to Vail Valley. With a refreshingly inviting Ambiance, Avon combines a great location with a style all its own.
