Dillon Reservoir Recreation Area

Description:

  • There are 5 family campgrounds and 1 group campground surrounding the reservoir, with varying levels of facilities. There is a Forest Service maintained boat ramp in the Peninsula Recreation Area on the south side of the reservoir. There are 2 privately (non Forest Service) operated marinas, one in Frisco and one in Dillon. There are numerous hiking trails in the area, as well as some paved recreation paths. There is an overlook at Sapphire Point, on the southeast side of the reservoir. There are 2 developed picnic areas around the reservoir; one at Heaton Bay and one at Sapphire Point.

The reservoir itself offers a full range of water activities including sailing, sail boarding, canoeing and fishing. The Blue River also provides excellent fishing.

Dillon Reservoir is located adjacent to the towns of Dillon, Silverthorne and Frisco in Summit County, about 70 miles west of Denver. From outside the area, the Dillon Reservoir is normally accessed by Interstate 70 which runs along the northwest side of the reservoir.
