Officers Row National Historic District

Description:

  • Twenty-one historic homes line this old street where the officers of the Vancouver Barracks were stationed. Three of the most prominent are the Ulysses S. Grant House (1849), General O. O. Howard House (1879) and George C. Marshall House (1886). Presidents and generals walked this historic drive—markers tell the story. The Howard House is also home to the Vancouver Visitors Center. In 1980, the City of Vancouver bought this neighborhood for $1, then spent eight years and $11 million restoring the neighborhood to its original state.
