Music in Vancouver

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • When the sun falls and the evening hits, it's time to put on your dancing shoes and hit Vancouver's music scene. This major city draws world-famous acts, unknown bands on the cusp of breaking into the scene and local favorites that achieve cult followings. Fortunately, there are plenty of venues around the city for you to check out and see who is playing.

The Commodore Ballroom is right on the Granville strip and it's always a happening place. From the exterior, you may not expect much of this joint, but when you step inside, you will be pleasantly surprised by its sizable space. There's room for rocking out to your favorite song, or taking it easy by sitting down while the music fills the air.

If you're into checking out hip bands that are fast approaching stardom, but are still unknown, the Biltmore Cabaret is where it's at. This intimate venue is always busy and you're more than likely to catch a new act that will be doing bigger shows in no time. The Media Club also falls into this category. It's small, but gives the audience a very one on one experience. Many major bands have played some of their first shows here before they became stars. Another perk is that tickets are often pretty cheap, compared to bigger shows.

The Vogue Theatre is a beautiful venue where many fantastic musicians come to play. Everything from the velor seats, detailed walls and lush details scream old Hollywood!

The Yale is well known for jazz and blues and it's perched right on the edge of the Granville strip. You may not see major artists, but you will have one heck of a night as you groove to the beats.

All of these venues are highly enjoyable places to catch a show. So, next time you're in Vancouver, make sure to see who is playing and treat your ears to something nice!
