A hidden garden, lush foliage at the end of a suspension bridge and being up close with some of nature's largest mammals are just some of the things you can do while you're in Vancouver, that are not your typical tourist traps.
Capilano Suspension Bridge is perched in North Vancouver's rich forests and hangs above a deep gorge. It's not far from the city, which makes it easily accessible for an afternoon or morning adventure. Though it's not far from Vancouver's downtown core, while you're up in the forest, surrounded by the trees, beautiful totem poles and the Tree Top Adventures paths and bridges, you will feel as though you're in a totally different world. The fresh air and one on one time with nature are added perks to this lovely spot.
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden makes the list because in a city of concrete buildings, culturally diverse restaurants and attractions is this little oasis. In the heart of Chinatown is this beautiful garden and it's the perfect place to escape from the bustle of the city and enjoy a little peace and quiet.
While you're so close to the Pacific ocean, you must take advantage of the water and all its glory! Vancouver Whale Watching Tours are the perfect way to get out on the water and have the opportunity to see whales. There's nothing like seeing these creatures up close and personal and their vast size can't be fully appreciated until you've experienced it for yourself. Another way to get out on the water is to rent a kayak with the Ecomarine Ocean Kayak Centre. Paddle around False Creek and the bay and enjoy the ocean breeze and fresh air.
Queen Elizabeth Park Pitch & Putt makes the list because in most large city's it's difficult to find a pitch and putt park and the Queen Elizabeth Park is less than a 15 minute drive from the downtown core. It's an ideal way to spend a sunny afternoon!
