Picnics, Parks & Gardens in Vancouver

Parks and picnics go hand in hand like milk and cookies. And, quite frankly, there's no better way to spend a warm summer day. There are a few staples in a Vancouverite's summer activity diet and along with riding the Seawall, picnicking is also on the must-do list. When you're surrounded by water, sand, mountains, rain forests and sunshine, it's impossible to ignore that picnic staring you in the eye.

Head across the bridge and escape downtown, as you make your way over to Kitsilano and head for the beaches! Jericho Beach makes our number one spot because it's not as busy as other beaches and the view is absolutely stunning. Let the sights of the mountains, Pacific ocean and downtown Vancouver pain the background to your lovely nosh session. On your way to Jericho, you could easily stop off at Granville Island to pick up some goodies for the road. Spanish Banks is the sister beach to Jericho, so both could easily be tied for our number one position.

Lighthouse Park is a drive away, but is also accessible by public transportation. Drive across the Lionsgate Bridge, through West Vancouver and you will find yourself at one of the best hidden spots around. It's easy to kill two birds with one stone here and if you would like to squeeze a hike in, you can take to the Lighthouse Park trails, or simply find a spot to perch and watch the waves roll by.

Should you want some space for smaller children (or adults) to run around an play, Queen Elizabeth Park and Trout Lake are ideal locations to meet up with large groups of friends and family. Trout Lake has a great play area for kids where they can work up an appetite for the picnic that awaits them.

Picnics are a very budget friendly way to enjoy your holiday and there's no shortage of fabulous spots for you to throw down a blanket, bring out some food and relax.
