Description:
Jules is one of those places that is hard not to like. Like Salt (reviewed below), this casual French bistro is part of a mini-Renaissance putting new life into Gastown. Jules can be really loud, but the staff is friendly and the food is honest, unpretentious, and reasonably priced. The menu's limited to just a few standard bistro items, all of them well prepared: steak frites (rib-eye or hanger steak with french fries), cassoulet, braised lamb shank, steamed mussels, or a vegetarian shepherd's pie. You can start with classics like French onion soup, escargots in garlic and herb butter, or country-style pâté. This is a good lunch spot, too.
