Description:

  • That this trail, one of the most popular in the Lower Mainland, exists at all is largely the result of efforts by Paul Binkert of the British Columbia Mountaineering Club. As you hike it, therefore, think gratefully of the volunteer work by club members that went into its construction and keeps it maintained. The trail gives access to the ridge on which the West Lion is situated. It does not take you to the top of either Lion. The West Lion itself is a rock climb and, as such, should be attempted only by properly equipped and experienced parties. The same caveat applies to the East Lion, which is also out of bounds, being in the Greater Vancouver watershed. The ridge crest itself is, however, sufficiently spectacular with dramatic close-up views of the twin peaks. © Copyright Jack Bryceland and Mary & David Macaree Published by Greystone Books.
