Stawamus Chief - Vancouver

  • Description:

    • Stawamus Chief is the great rock mass that towers over the highway just south of Squamish. Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, in which it lies, is cooperatively managed by B.C. Parks and the Squamish Rockclimbers Association. Rock climbers scale its face by various routes, but hikers can achieve any one of the three peaks, or all three if they like, if they keep to the rear of the rock. The three summits are South (First), Centre (Second) and North (Third). South Peak is the most visited. Described here is the traverse over the centre and north summits. Once the climbing is past, you can enjoy the summit view of Mount Garibaldi and the Tantalus Range. To return you can descend from the saddle between the summits. However, just reversing your ascent route back over Centre Peak is the most scenic. © Copyright Jack Bryceland and Mary & David Macaree Published by Greystone Books. All Rights Reserved.
