Description:
The hallways are plastered with ornate little mirrors and tons of contemporary paintings and prints, and the location is great -- around the corner from La Fenice opera house, halfway between San Marco and the Accademia. It's split into two early-19th-century palazzi on either side of a modern lobby entrance grafted into what was once an open courtyard, scraps of which survive off either side of the hall for breakfast alfresco. It's a perfectly nice, elegantly furnished hotel of modest luxury, but unfortunately the hotel lacks random quality touches such as a decent air-conditioning system, and, in some cases, good beds -- some of the mattresses rest on ancient, swaybacked cot springs. The string of homey lounges feel like comfy living rooms, scattered with assorted furnishings, card tables, a TV with VCR, and an Internet point for guest use.
