Pizzeria ae Oche

Description:

  • It's nice to know that some things haven't changed in Venice: This is still the Baskin-Robbins of Venice's pizzerias, an American-style tavern restaurant of wood beams and booths decorated with classic 1950s Coca-Cola signs and the like, and still at honest pizza prices. Italians are zealously unapologetic about tucking into a good-size pizza and a pint of beer (with more than 20 here from which to choose); the walk to and from this slightly peripherally located hangout (with outside eating during warm weather) allays thoughts of calorie counts. What you count here are the 85 varieties of imaginative pizza that fill the menu, including a dozen of the tomato-sauce-free "white" variety (pizza bianca). The clientele is a mixed bag of young and old, students and not, Venetians and visitors. (At economy prices like these, you should note that a 12% service charge is automatically added to the bill.)
