Description:
Often overlooked by visitors to Versailles, the Musée Lambinet is filled with treasures seized from the French court during the Revolution. Here are all the antiques, the carved wood paneling, and even religious art and other objets d'art so beloved by Marie Antoinette and the mistresses of Louis XV such as Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry. The sumptuous mansion from 1751 is also filled with paintings (no great masterpieces, however), along with weaponry, and rare porcelain (look for the Du Barry rose). Also on view are rare displays illustrating the lives of Jean-Paul Marat, the radical journalist, and his murderer, Charlotte Corday, as depicted in stage plays and films.
