• The one essential visit in the Hofburg, the Schatzkammer contains Austria's crown jewels, a varied collection of the artifacts which symbolize the influence of Austria's ruling dynasties. The items on display range from the historically reliable, such as the crown of the Holy Roman Empire, to the fanciful; a magnificent onyx bowl whose patterns are supposed to form the head of Christ, for example. Splinters of wood from the cross and a tooth of St. John the Baptist are among the least credible, but no less interesting items!
