Description:
Only have two nights to spend in the largest city in Austria? Here's your guide to fitting in the most memorable and spectacular of the arts, culture, and architecture that this city has to offer in just 48 hours.
Day Note:
Arriving Friday afternoon, drop your things at the hotel and check in, then head out on a walk around the neighborhood. There are several parks and interesting buildings in the near vicinity, including the Stephansplatz, a historic square that features the huge Stephansdom cathedral. Grab dinner at Figlmuller, just two blocks from the hotel, to get your taste buds in an Austrian mood with a huge schnitzel and some potato salad. Two nights at the Hotel Konig...read more
Day Note:
Make sure to fill up on Viennese pastries at Cafe Diglas before setting off for a long day of sight-seeing. The Vienna public transportation system is excellent, with one ticket being valid on both buses and trains, and makes getting around the city easy, inexpensive, and hassle-free. Spend your morning wandering the Belvedere palace and its gardens. For lunch, eat in the Meierei portion of the Steirereck restaurant, which is less formal (and less pricey) than...read more

Description:
Traditional Viennese café right behind St Stephen's Cathedral and a paradise for pastry-fans. An "extended living room" (and that is what cafés traditionally are for many Viennese people) the way you want it: Cosy, elegant and almost always open. Freshly baked in their own pastry shop, Diglas serves nearly every sweet Viennese delicacy you can think of. But in case you have not got a very sweet tooth, it also offers excellent Viennese cuisine.

Description:
Named after the banks of the Wien River, which once flowed beside it, Vienna's largest theatre still retains its past glory. Its Empire Style design, a memorial Papageno gate and scenic surroundings make it a romantic venue to catch some stunning performances. Listen to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra bring Mozart and Beethoven back to life. Among other big names that grace the stage, are Angelika Kirchschlager, Rudolf Buchbinder, and Maurizio Pollini. With "Mozart 2006", the theatre celebrates the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. Music also takes on a humorous note with acts, such as "I Hate Mozart", so there seems to be something for all classical tastes here. Check the web site for upcoming events and tickets.
Day Note:
Fit in the Austrian State Library and the Schonborn palace in the morning, then grab a bite to eat at Schnattl, a delightful less-touristy Viennese restaurant, before swinging back to the hotel to check out and heading off to the airport.
