• This 21-story tower opened on the oceanfront in 2005 and immediately raised the stakes for all other hotels here. You'll see what I mean upon entering the grand lobby, where a huge water wall shaped like a Neptune's shell changes its colors every few minutes. The hotel's most unique feature is its rooftop recreation area, featuring a heated indoor pool, snack restaurant, bar, and an outdoor pool whose horizon seemingly meets the sea. You can see all the way to Norfolk from up here on a clear day. On the ground level, the casual but sophisticated Catch 31 fishhouse is one of the beach's better restaurants, and part of it becomes the fine-dining Salacia at night. The spacious rooms and suites come equipped with modern amenities such as 32- or 42-inch flatscreen TVs and high-speed Internet access. Parlor suites add Murphy beds and kitchenettes. Empyrean Club units on the top three floors have the best views and their own 24-hour concierge lounge serving continental breakfast, evening hors d'oeuvres, and cocktails. All units except the City View rooms have balconies. This Hilton and the Cavalier are the two best resorts here.
