Zoo Bar - Washington DC

  • Description:

    • During the day, this establishment located across the street from, you guessed it, the zoo, caters to hungry families, but Thursday through Saturday nights after 10pm, it's a blues joint. Expect a divey setting and an eclectic crowd that skews older. The quality of the music varies: Sometimes you'll stop in and find a serious bluesman from New Orleans, the next night it'll be a local boomer band fronted by a 20-something singer who can really belt it out. If you're looking for a hot club scene, this ain't it. But if you're a blues lover, the Zoo Bar's worth checking out. Plus, it's cheap -- no cover -- and conveniently located, right on Connecticut Avenue, a short walk from the Woodley Park-Zoo Metro stop on the Red Line.
