• Managed by trendy Thompson Hotels, Donovan House gets high marks for hipness, starting with the lobby: an arty chandelier/sculpture, buzzing bar scene, Italian leather chairs, and a banquette nook set in the wall endow a nightclub vibe. Ditto the guest rooms; the same ergonomic designer chairs in coffee, plum, and olive contrast with snow-white dressers and walls. A brown leather strip headboards the bed, extending up to and across the ceiling. The pristine bathroom features a snail-like shower stall, whose cylindrical shape protrudes into the guest room -- its opaque walls ensure the shower-er is not on show. "People are art" is the theme, so mirrors take the place of artwork. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Thomas Circle, nearby landmark churches, and cityscapes. The best spot for great views, though, is the seasonal rooftop pool and bar. Todd English, of Olives, chefs the Asian-themed restaurant. Seventeen one-bedroom suites are available. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available everywhere.
