• Cleveland Park is an upscale residential community of old streets lined with towering trees and Victorian houses. A preponderance of wonks, intellects, and journalists live here with their families. It's an unlikely mecca for the wild-and-crazy 20-something crowd; but thanks to a stretch of Connecticut Avenue between Porter and Macomb streets, where a number of bars and restaurants lie, that's what it's become -- a mini-mecca, let's say. In the middle of this designated hot zone lies Indique, a two-story, glass-fronted Indian restaurant. Partyers on the weekend pack the downstairs bar area, drinking pomegranate martinis. Diners without reservations, and even sometimes those with reservations, wait for tables to become available upstairs, downstairs, wherever. Indian cuisine happens to be in vogue at the moment, and Indique's is very good. Come here for the Cornish hen curry, vegetable samosas, and tandoori shrimp. Its authentic cuisine from different regions in India, from the curries and tandoori specialties of northern Italy to the appams and ishtews of southwestern India, attracts visiting dignitaries from India and Indian food-informed Washingtonians.
