Description:
Most of the restaurants in Chinatown look seedy, no matter how good the food might be. Tony Cheng's is the most presentable of Chinatown's eateries, and it's also a good choice if you like Cantonese specialties and spicy Szechuan and Hunan cuisine. Downstairs is the Mongolian Barbecue eatery, where you have a choice of dipping your own vegetables, seafood, and meats in a "hot pot" of boiling broth or ordering a $18-per-person, all-you-can-eat spread of foods you select for the chef to barbecue over a huge grill. The second-floor Tony Cheng's Seafood Restaurant has been here for decades. It has earned a reputation for its Cantonese roast duck (look for yourself before ordering, since it is displayed in a case at the back of the restaurant); lobster or Dungeness crab, stir-fried and served with either ginger and scallions or black-bean sauce; and Szechuan crispy beef, to name just a few. Dim sum is available at lunch daily, but during the week you order items off the menu, rather than from rolling carts.
