Downstairs is the lounge, a pulsing after-work destination for a multiethnic cross section of Washington professionals. Men and women in suits balance small plates of tapas on their laps or lean back upon the puffy, low-slung sofas and ottomans to drink Zengo's signature mojitos and margaritas. Up two intimidating flights of wide, marble steps lies the dining room, which is just as popular; and it features a ceviche bar, a glass-enclosed private dining room, and tables scattered throughout the large room, with some overlooking 7th Street. Latin-Asian cuisine might be a new concept, but D.C. diners are nothing if not intrepid. And it turns out that bravery isn't necessary anyway, since ceviches, sushi rolls, and dim sum appetizers marry Asian and Latin tastes quite nicely, whether in a Thai chicken empanada or a won ton taco. Entrees, like the adobo-grilled mahimahi, prove the same.
