Description:

  • On the northwest edge of town, this 1,200-acre estate and its mansion are don't-misses for fox hunting and horse-drawn carriage fans. The original part of Westmoreland Davis Mansion was built as a farmhouse in 1781 but was later expanded as the home of Virginia governor Westmoreland Davis. Normally home to the Museum of Hounds and Hunting, it is closed while undergoing a multiyear restoration. Still open, the carriage house holds the impressive Winmill Carriage Collection. Allow 1 1/2 hours to take the 45-minute house tour and visit the museums.
