Description:
- A destination by itself, this unique facility seeks to impart to young and old alike an increased knowledge of and appreciation for the earth's vital resources. The center features hand-on activities, multimedia presentations, and life-sized dioramas which focus on global environmental issues, migratory bird studies, habitats, endangered species, and the tools and techniques used by scientists. A large auditorium and meeting rooms can accommodate scientific conferences, meetings, teacher workshops, lectures, and traveling displays. A bookstore, Wildlife Images, is operated by the Friends of Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Inc. offering a variety of conservation books and materials. After you've thoroughly explored the visitor center, which will take several hours time, be sure to pick up the leaflets detailing hiking and seasonal fishing opportunities, and tram tours. The center is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 10 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Call 301-497-5760 for details.
