Description:
- Piedmont Overlook Trail begins just beyond the visitor center parking lot. Signage is very visible. The wide grassy path takes the hiker into the forest affording a moderate hike with wonderful scenery. It connects to North Ridge, affording access to the park's network of trails. Primitive camping is also tucked in the woods off Gap Run. The loop trail is 1.2 miles in length and blazed with red markers.
Backpacking opportunities afford hike-in sites: non-potable water only and pit toilets. Access to Appalachian Trail lies to the northwest.
Note: Appalachian Trial users must use the primitive campground when camping within park boundaries, and they are required to pay the $8.00 per site, per night fee. There are honor fee envelopes and a pipe safe located in the campground at the information board. AT hikers who wish to park in the Sky Meadow's lot overnight without camping within the park must pay the daily parking fee.
