Beach House at Dundarave Pier

• The Beach House offers a panoramic view of English Bay from its waterfront location. Diners on the heated patio get more sunshine, but they miss out on the rich interior of this restored 1912 teahouse. The food is consistently good -- innovative, but not so experimental that it leaves the staid West Van burghers gasping for breath. Appetizers include fresh oysters with mango-jalapeño salsa; spicy calamari with citrus yogurt; and a salad of crab, shrimp, avocado, and tomato. Entrees have included linguine with wild prawns, scallops, tomatoes, and chilies; seared tuna in black truffle and red wine sauce; and braised beef short ribs. The wine list is award-winning. The Beach House is a favorite West Van spot for Saturday and Sunday brunch.
