Description:

  • The Delaware Art Museum, home of 12,000 works of art, is best known for its dazzling collection of pre-Raphaelite art. The entrance, overlooking the sculpture garden, is crowned with a colorful Dale Chihuly glass sculpture. First-floor galleries are devoted to the pre-Raphael works, local artist Howard Pyle and his fellow illustrators of the Brandywine school, and John Sloan and early-American modernism. A second-floor bridge lets visitors get a closer look at the Chihuly glass as they head to galleries filled with more contemporary art, including works by Jacob Lawrence, Edward Hopper, and Jamie Wyeth. There is a 9-acre sculpture garden, a children's area, a cafe, and museum store.
