Dubrovnik offers a romantic setting for fine Continental cuisine and Eastern European specialties. It occupies a beautiful Victorian brick town house with working fireplaces, leaded-glass windows, and an enclosed veranda. Each dining area is decorated tastefully with a few plants and colorful gusle (beautifully carved musical instruments, often inlaid with mother-of-pearl). Start with artichoke-and-porcini mushroom ravioli with red-bell-pepper coulis or exquisite little sandwiches of lobster and mango. Main courses are very refined -- Muscovy duck breast is served with sour cherries and pomegranate glaze, while roasted squab comes with foie gras, baked apple, figs, and a glaze of port. Finish with a coffee Dubrovnik (sljivovica -- plum brandy -- with Kruskovac pear liqueur, coffee, whipped cream, and chopped walnuts).
