Description:
A producer of currency for countries worldwide, one in four people in the world carry coins made in Winnipeg's mint. The process of making money is mind-boggling, and the tour offered here will prove it to you. Dies are produced; a roof crane lifts 1,818-kilogram (4,000-lb.) strips of bronze and nickel; three 150-ton presses stamp out up to 8,800 coin blanks per minute; and coining presses turn out up to 18,000 coins per hour to the telling machines that count the number for bagging. The whole process represents an extraordinary engineering feat streamlined by conveyor belts and an overhead monorail.
