Description:

  • This family-oriented institution is set on a woodsy campus traversed by meandering nature trails. Primarily directed at young children, the complex includes an indoor planetarium and a museum with interactive displays about ecology and conservation, and live and taxidermied animals. Outside, there are bald eagles, otters, owls, and a polar bear, and a 1/3 scale model of an 1860s steam engine takes a 12-minute loop through the grounds. For adults and children 7 and older, a Tree Canopy Walkway 40 feet above ground lets you traverse amid oak and hickory trees (summer only). In June and July, there are outdoor jazz concerts at sunset.
