Xpujil Hotels
I've picked the best hotels in and around Xpujil, Campeche - the gateway to the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and the Mayan archeological sites of Mexico's southern Yucatan Peninsula. This list of the top places to stay in Xpujil will, hopefully, help you find the perfect small hotel or B&B for your taste and budget - there are no big resorts out here in the jungle!
My #1 top pick for quality, individuality, and value is Rio Bec Dreams, a sweet B&B owned and operated by a Canadian couple. I like it because is bungalows sit on about 50 acres of private land.
Chicanna Ecovillage Resort follows at #2 due to its spacious guest rooms, inviting swimming pool, and convenient location right on Highway 186. Its only drawback - for me, at least - is that it's usually packed with large tour bus groups.
My third choice is located about one hour west: Hotel Puerta Calakmul. It gains #3 status because of its rustic eco-sensibility and isolated comfort. It's the only hotel located inside the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve proper, saving you the extra hour it would take to drive from Xpujil, leaving more time to explore the impressive Mayan ruins here.
For less expensive choices, I have rounded out the list with two options: Yaax'che Campground and little Cabañas Don Jorgé.
Regrettably, I haven't included Hotel Debliz Xpujil on this list because of recent conflicting experiences that guests and local residents have reported. If you stay there, please let me know what you think!
