Campamento Yaaxche (Servidores Turisticos de Xpujil y Calakmul)

Description:

• There are only two places to overnight inside the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve: the Hotel Puerta Calakmul and a no-frills campground, Campamento Yaax'che. It is owned by a family of local tour guides and offers accommodations in tent cabins with sheets and blankets included, or at campsites if you have brought your own gear. Guests share eco-friendly showers and toilets.
  
  More than anything else, Campamento Yaax'che brings you close to the reserve's flora and fauna and with a little luck you will see monkeys, parrots, tapirs, but probably not the elusive jaguar. The campground has a hiking trail, a 36-foot tall observation tower, and bicycles for rent. Nico at Kaan Expeditions leads tours that include an overnight stay at Yaax'che.
  
  If you don't want to camp and the Hotel Puerta Calakmul is too expensive, drive one hour east and stay at Rio Bec Dreams or Chicanna Ecovillage Resort.
