So many millions of people come through the park each year that Yosemite's cheap restaurants get lots of practice at serving hearty food quickly. As with much else in the Sierra, many of our inexpensive eateries are only open in the summer, but there's almost always something affordable nearby on a Yosemite visit.
Many local working folks and long-time visitors seeking an inexpensive meal will tell you to head for the Bug Hostel in Midpines, and in summer, to get to "the Mobil" in Lee Vining. Both places will surprise you with the simple atmosphere, cheap prices and really great food. "The Mobil" is the Whoa Nellie Deli within the gas station minimart at the foot of Tioga Pass Road; their specialties include fish tacos, buffalo meatloaf and lobster taquitos, none of which will break the bank, but each of which will astound the palate. In the Valley, Degnan's Deli in Yosemite Village and the Pizza Deck at Curry Village are perennial popular favorites. Higher up, in the summer, those in the know find reasonable vittles at the Tuolumne Meadows Grill and the Tioga Pass Resort (famed for pies!)
Don't neglect the fact that Yosemite is one big picnic area with some of the planet's most valued scenery and any set of boulders or logs can make good dining room chairs/tables. Get your supplies at Degnan's or the Village Store, load your daypack and find yourself a view along the trail that can't be beat by princes or presidents dining indoors.
