Pavilions (The)

• "The View" as locals know it, has a nice restaurant with a fine location right on the park boundary in El Portal.  Traditional American fare of steak and salad will refill you after a day out in the park, or set you up with a good breakfast beforehand, and there's a full service bar, too.  Seating on the patio next to the rushing Merced River has a special charm while swifts and swallows work above the river and American dippers whir up and down over the rapids.  As you approach the restaurant entrance you'll pass a pizza place that's popular with locals.  The restaurant can put together your box lunch for the trail if you order the night before.
