NileGuide Expert Says:
Here's a cool way that big wall climbing can be a spectator sport.
NileGuide Expert tip:
Bring your own binoculars to look for other parties on El Cap.
Description:
- A service provided by the Yosemite Climbing Association and the Yosemite Conservancy, here's a great way to learn about the bold men and women who ascend Yosemite's big walls. In summer only, take the free shuttle to El Capitan Bridge where you'll find a helpful fellow with a big telescope pointed up at the cliff. Though nearly invisible to the naked eye at such a height, the telescope shows you a climbing team going about their business of a 3-5 day ascent of El Capitan. Five-time El Cap climber Tom Evans posts the progress of all El Cap parties on his website each night, so families and friends can follow these adventurers from afar.
Tom has some climbing gear to show and can explain how a multi-day assault is undertaken, or how speed climbers can charge up the Nose in a matter of hours. Prepare to be impressed. - © NileGuide2013
