    • Whether you're new to the sport of ice climbing or an experienced front-pointer, Lee Vining Canyon in the shadow of Mount Dana, just east of Yosemite National Park, offers the best and most consistent ice climbing in the Sierra Nevada. Try booking a guide with Sierra Mountain Guides. The area is located off of Hwy. 120 (Tioga Pass), just south of Lee Vining, CA, a little town about 25 miles north of Mammoth on Hwy. 395. To reach the canyon from Lee Vining, head south on Hwy. 395 for less than a mile and turn right on Hwy. 120. Proceed about 3 miles until just before you reach the closed gate. Turn left here onto Poole Rd. and follow it roughly north for 2 miles until it ends at the power plant. Park here and hike for 20-30 minutes until you reach the main area.
