Mono Basin Birding Chautauqua - Yosemite National Park
  • Type: Birding
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

An outstanding festival of natural history.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

There's good camping in Lee Vining Canyon nearby.

    Description:

    • The Mono Lake area is a unique ecosystem centered on a high elevation desert salt lake, and it is one of North America's birding hotspots.  It's only natural that there should be a birding festival here, and the NPS, Forest Service, Mono Lake Committee and others put on a wonderful event.  Participants will learn about waterbirds, landbirds, birds of the high Sierra and migrants which pass through.  Beginners find welcoming leaders, veterans find plenty of identification challenges.  Top-notch presenters entertain and inform at night - but don't stay up too late: the early birder gets the birds.
