Preston Falls - Yosemite National Park
  • Type: Hiking
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

A really nice canyon bottom walk, great in the off-season when it's not so hot.

  • Description:

    • This is a really nice walk along the bank of the Tuolumne River below the Yosemite boundary in Stanislaus National Forest.  Get there off of Hwy. 120 by taking Cherry Lake Road until you see the fork with a sign indicating "Early Intake" to the left.  Follow the switchbacks down, over the bridge and drive through the Kirkwood Powerhouse area to the parking at the trailhead.  Hot in summer, watch out for poison oak.  Get a backpacking permit in Groveland if you want to camp overnight at one of the several nice sites along the river.  The trail ends at a nice river pool and the Tuolumne River pouring over a 15' fall.
