Will much of yosemite be open mid-may. We are travelling up the 395 and wonder what to do if tioga pass road is closed.

This is a gamble every year. Tioga Pass is usually open to cars by Memorial Day. This year we had a heavy snowpack and a cold, snowy spring so the road opened June 18. So far this season we have had little precipitation and the road is still open, about 6 weeks after its usual closing date. A moderate La Nina winter had been forecast which doesn't tell us a lot about snow quantity, really. A betting man would say that in mid-May you're most likely to be denied vehicle access into Yosemite from 395 - maybe a 20-30% chance. It's possible, but you'd have to be lucky.
