Botanical Gardens

Description:

  • Mihanoviceva Street runs west of Tomislavov Trg past Starcevic Trg and the 1925 landmark Esplanade Hotel, one of the best examples of Secessionist architecture in Zagreb. Mihanovic also skirts Zagreb's Botanical Gardens, which opened in 1894 and were supposed to link the two legs of the Green Horseshoe. However, progress and several bland blocks of more modern architecture got in the way. The gardens feature an arboretum, ponds, and an ornamental bridge.
